However, if you can afford it, the $849 Macbook Air is the ultimate in easy to use computers that’ll let you do everything from stream video to play the latest games.
Apple M2 chip
The Macbook Air was the first laptop to feature Apple’s M2 chip, which the firm developed in house (previously Macs have relied on Intel chips).
It’s incredibly fast, and has far better battery life than most of the competition.
Apple is transitioning all of its Macs over to this chip, which is based on the same chip used in the iPhone and iPad, so you’re really getting ahead of the game by buying one. Most importantly, this isn’t a laptop than will be obsolete in a few months – this will last you a long, long time.
This year, Apple released a MacBook with the option for an even faster chip called the M3 – but we think for most people, the M2 is more than good enough.
Boosted battery life
The M2 chip also dramatically improves battery life, and Apple says the new Macbook Air can last for 18 hours on a single charge if you’re watching video, and up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing. In our tests, we found this is true – it’s really impressive. What this means is you’ll no longer need to panic looking for your laptop charger every few hours.
Software
Of course the software is what makes or breaks a computer, and the Macbook Air runs the latest version of MacOS software.
It’s excellent, and if you can afford the extra cost of a Mac, we think it’s the best, easiest to use operating system out there.
Overall
The Macbook Air is a fantastic all round machine, and simple enough to use we recommend it over every other machine out there.
